4.5.2— Check Lines and Connections
Perform a general inspection as follows:
4.5.3— Check Engine Oil Level
1.
Remove dipstick and wipe with a clean cloth. See A of Figure 4-1.
2.
Completely insert the dipstick and then remove it.
Figure 4-1. Check Engine Oil Level
3.
Verify that the oil level is at or near the FULL mark.
4.
If necessary, remove the oil fill cap and slowly add the recommended type of oil until the level is at the FULL
mark. DO NOT OVERFILL. See B of Figure 4-1.
5.
Install dipstick and oil fill cap.
Never operate the engine with the oil level below the ADD mark on the dipstick. Doing so could damage
the engine.
Hot oil may cause burns. Avoid prolonged or repeated skin exposure with used oil. Thoroughly wash
exposed areas with soap.
Any attempt to crank or start the engine before it has been properly serviced with the recommended oil
may result in an engine failure.
4.5.3.1— Engine Oil Recommendations
All oil should meet minimum American Petroleum Institute (API) Service Class SJ, SL or better. Use no special addi-
tives.
See B of Figure 4-1. Select the oil viscosity grade according to the expected operating temperature.
Above 3F (0° C), use SAE 30
Between 40° F and -10° F (4° C and -23° C), use 10W-30
For all temperature ranges, use Synthetic 5W-30
