Section 1 Overview
The Sigma 1600 Automatic Liquid Sampler automatically collects wastewater
samples and preserves the samples using refrigeration. The sampler
operates on 120 V ac, 60 Hz. The sampler cabinet is constructed entirely of
non-corrosive fiberglass reinforced plastic. The refrigerator is equipped with a
1
/6 horsepower compressor with a fan-cooled condenser, front ventilation,
silver brazed connections, and adjustable thermostat. Refer to Figure 1 .

1.1 Measurement Capabilities
The sampler collects samples on a timed-cycle basis or in proportion to flow
rate when used in conjunction with a flow meter. The flow through chamber
(Figure 2) receives a continuous flow of wastewater supplied by a pump or
gravity flow. Gravity flows the wastewater out of the sampler chamber through
a 3 in. diameter outlet. To prevent suspended solids from settling, the flow rate
through the sampler chamber can be 5–30 gallons per minute. The rotating
cam operated dipper arm cycle takes a repetitive 25 mL sample from the
chamber’s wastewater flow.
