DOUBLE-SEAT VALVE (Type 491)
BA 049100.06 EN 29 / 34
10.3 Inspection Intervals
Visual inspections must be carried out continuously:
• Check the compressed air supply (compressed air hose, hose routing, hose
coupling, filter...).
• Check the electrical supply (wiring, pipe surface, cable couplings...).
• Check the leakage outlet and the housing seal (liquid outlet...).
• Test the valve functions.
10.4 Cleaning Parameters
The double-seat valve and the sealing material in the product-affected area is designed for
a standard CIP operation.
The following are to be considered as standard conditions:
• CIP media on the basis of commercially available caustic-acid components with
given chemical resistance to EPDM sealing material. Consultation should be carried
out with the valve manufacturer for different kinds of media.
• Cleaning additives in the concentration range of 2-4%.
• Temperatures for cleaning media in the range of 30-70°C or
hot water to 90°C.
• Piping pressure 2-5 bar.
• Flow velocity 2-5 m/s.
• Differential pressure in flushing chamber cleaning < 2 bar.
• Cleaning cycles according to the medium up to 15 minutes. Depending on the
chosen cleaning function, the valve should be frequently opened and closed.
10.5 Seal change
Instructions for disassembly of the valve are to be found in Chapter 8.
Please note the following points:
• Use the corresponding tools (e.g. dig hook) to remove the various seals. The dig
hooks are not necessary for the product chamber seals.
• The sealing grooves should be cleaned thoroughly before installing the new seals.
• The new seals are to be installed with light lubrication.
Only greases permitted for the food industry should be used.
