6.2 GAIN & MASTER - JOINT OPERATION
Method “A. After plugging Jack or XLR in to Input at a Gain of "0"
with Mute ON, turn Master up to about 2/3 CW or 2 o’clock, then
switch Mute Off & gradually turn Ch.1 (or Ch.2) Gain Control CW
slowly, until you have reached the desired level at 1/4-1/3 CW.
Adjust Gain Control carefully according to desired levels
Method “B”. After plugging in at a Gain of "0" and with Mute ON,
switch Mute OFF and turn Master up a little maybe 1/4-1/3 CW,
then gradually increase the Gain CW to maybe 1/2-2/3 CW or about
2 o’clock, until the desired level (for your instrument) is reached.
Further adjust Gain and Master in order to retain headroom and
clarity
Master sets output level across both channels and Aux IN, thereby
controlling the overall volume
Method “B”. Offers a slightly lower noise level, while Method "A"
may offer a slightly clearer or more pleasing tone and is
recommended .
Why No Level LEDs? Distortion is something that happens
progressively and there is no black and white point to mark a
change over from clean to distorted. Levels and distortion change
according to factors such as how hard you play and the user should
decide how clean, how warmed up, or how (slightly) distorted they
would like the sound to be and it will change in as little as one
second to the next. A red warning LED will not change this. Instead,
use your ears!
