GENERAL INFORMATION
EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM (PULSE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM):

The exhaust emission control system includes a secondary air supp ly system which i ntrodu ces filt ered ai r into the exhaust
gases in the exhaust port. Fresh air is drawn i nto the exhaust port whenever there is a negative pressure pulse in the
exhaust system. This charge of fresh air promotes burning of the unburn ed exhaust gases and changes a considerable
amount of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide int o relati vely harmless carbon dioxide and water vapo r.
This
model has a pulse secondary air injection ( PAIR ) control valve. A PAIR check valve preve nts reverse air fl ow thr ough
the system. The
PAIR control valve reacts to high intake manifold vacuum and will cut off the s upply of fresh air during
r- engine deceleration, thereby preventing aherburn in the exhaust system.

No adjustment to the PAIR system should be made, although periodic inspection of the components is recommended.

PROHIBITED ACTIONS

You may not remove or disable any device or element of design that may affect an engine's emission levels. This restric-
tion applies before and
after the engine in placed in servi ce .
Vehicles that are used
only for competition are exempt from this prohibition.
