3 Creating a Server Profile
A server profile is like the DNA of all the servers in the deployment. It includes the server EFI
environment variables, the I/O configuration, the OS and drivers, and installed applications. The
server profile is stored in the repository. This chapter describes how to create the server profile.
Because you need to perform this task on the workstation using the SSTK, you begin by setting
up this workspace.

Preparing the Workstation
The workstation is the base of all SSTK operations. Before you can use it, you must make sure it
is equipped with all the tools you need. Ensure that you have installed applications that can
create a disk image and burn a bootable CD or DVD.
The URLs and products listed here are only suggestions. You can use any applications that can
perform equivalent functions.
• Any Linux text editor can be used because each can save a file to the UNIX format.
• SSTK has been tested with the mkisofs disk imaging application, which is delivered with
your OS distribution.

Displaying Headless Server Console Output at the Workstation
In order to display the console output of a “headless” Linux HP Integrity server at a remote
workstation, you must configure the Integrity server to use a particular console device. On HP
Integrity servers running Linux, the console cannot be displayed over the MP LAN as well as
the local console. So if you intend to display the console output at the workstation via a telnet
connection, you must first modify the HP Integrity server configuration to specify that the input,
output, and error consoles use a single “Uart” device.
NOTE: The EFI Boot Manager may be used from the Enhanced interface (displayed with a grey
background) or the Legacy interface (displayed with a black background).
At the HP Integrity server (the model server and each target server) using the Enhanced interface,
perform the following steps:
1. Select EFI Boot Manager > Boot configuration > Console configuration.
2. Select Input Console. Select only one Acpi(HWP—2,700)PCI ~~/Uart~~ device.
3. Select Output Console. Set the output console to be the same as the input console device.
