exact
decimal
answer
up

digits
long
(that
is,
up
to

double-sized
result
is
placed
into
regis-
ters

digits)
and

(the

least
significant
digits).
Since
the
“double”
functions
operate
internally
in
binary,
it
is
nec-
essary
to
perform

extra
manipulations

the
largest
exponent
of

that
can
be
held

to
obtain

meaningful
decimal
answer.
