Quick guide / overview to installing HP
Indigo ElectroInk Silver and working with it
2
The below procedure summarizes the steps needed to install the HP Indigo ElectroInk Silver and then
work with this ink. For more information on each step, and troubleshooting, see additional instructions in
this document.
1. Make sure prerequisites are met — refer to Prerequisites to using ElectroInk Silver on page 1.
2. Clean the ink station:
a. Wash a previously used station using OFIR (On-press Fast Ink Replacement). Make sure the
BID and hoses are clean. Refer to Cleaning the ink station before building the HP Indigo
ElectroInk Silver on page 8.
b. Remove the previously installed BID from the press (save for later use for previously used ink).
Refer to Removing and storing ElectroInk Silver and BID on page 25.
3. Install the piston spacer (P/N CA341-86500) on the ink cartridge holder, in the dedicated silver
station, in the ink cabinet. Silver should be installed in either ink station 1, 6 or 7.
Refer to Installing the new piston spacer (shim) on the ink cartridge holder on page 33.
4. Install the ElectroInk Silver-dedicated BID base (P/N C8Q11A) and developer roller (P/N C8Q12A) on
the press. DO NOT perform any BID (or other) calibrations.
Refer to Installing the dedicated BID base and developer roller on page 7.
5. Build the ElectroInk Silver:
a. Fill the ink tank using imaging oil from the press / RIO (Regenerated Imaging Oil) system.
b. DO NOT add imaging agent (affects the conductivity)!
c. Run the
Build Ink
wizard for Silver (use the ink file named US-Silver-EI.usi)
d. In case building the ink fails on high conductivity, set the conductivity to 50 (through
CE
Applications
). No need to measure with an external measuring device.
Refer to Building HP Indigo ElectroInk Silver on page 9.
6. Perform BID calibrations:
a. Perform
BID Ink Flow Calibration
.
b. Run the
Full BID engage
wizard.
Refer to steps 7 - 8, in Building HP Indigo ElectroInk Silver on page 9.
7. Work with HP Indigo ElectroInk Silver:
a. Add a null cycle between silver separations to avoid BID bounce at the leading edge. Add a null
by clearing the bypass for Auto-Null adding on double-hit printing in the Print Care >
Bypasses
> Processes
screen.
