Overview

The GAI-TRONICS E3 IP Access Panel is a software-based application designed to provide high-level control of E3 systems from any location. It functions as a virtual access panel, offering a comprehensive interface for managing E3 system operations.

Function Description:

The E3 IPAP application allows users to interact with E3 systems, providing control over various functions such as playing alarms, managing audio, and monitoring system status. It supports concurrent connection licensing, where each license permits one connection to a dedicated E3 controller from a specific IPAP configuration, identified by a Panel Identification Number (PIN). Multiple IPAPs can be configured with distinct PINs for individual connections or identical PINs for shared responsibilities across different operators or systems. The application facilitates controller discovery and connection, presenting available E3 systems that match the entered PIN. Once connected, the IPAP displays a main screen with configurable button panels, a title bar, and a status bar, enabling operators to execute defined actions and monitor system health. It supports both A-B and N+1 redundant E3 systems, providing fault status indicators and handling connection loss scenarios.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Operating System Requirements: Minimum Windows 10 version 1803 build 17134 or Windows 11 device.
  • Installation: Requires side-loading of applications on the Windows device. Installation is initiated via an executable file (E3IPAP-Setup.exe) downloaded from a specified Hubbell CDN link.
  • Network Configuration: The IPAP functions on the Network Interface Card (NIC) designated as #1 on the metric interface setting screen. Users must manually set the interface metric for the applicable NIC to 1 in the Advanced TCP/IP Settings (IPv4 properties).
  • Licensing: E3 architecture uses concurrent connection licensing tied to E3 controllers. Each license allows one IPAP connection per dedicated controller, identified by a unique PIN. Controllers must have sufficient connection licenses to support the total number of required IPAP connections.
  • Microphone Settings: Adjustable Minimum Level Threshold to govern the sound level necessary for the microphone to pick up ambient audio. This setting also determines if the microphone is present and functioning properly.
  • Volume Control: Linked to the Windows system volume setting, with an independent mute feature within the application.
  • Screen Zoom: Activated by pinching/spreading fingers on touch screens or Ctrl+MouseWheelDown/Up on non-touch screens. Allows display of up to four button panels simultaneously.

Usage Features:

  • PIN Entry: Users enter a four-digit numeric PIN to initiate the controller discovery process and connect to a specific E3 controller configuration.
  • Controller Discovery: The application actively searches for E3 systems with an access panel configuration matching the entered PIN. Notifications are displayed during discovery and for timeouts if no system is found or the PIN is invalid.
  • Connection Management: After successful discovery, users can select an E3 system from a list and connect. The application displays microphone setup and system connection status during this process.
  • IPAP Screens:
    • Title Bar: Displays the SYSTEM MENU, CONNECTION heartbeat(s), FAULT STATUS indicator(s), PA IN USE indicator(s), and the name of the currently running IPAP.
    • Main Screen Area: Contains configurable button screens (pages) and can display the E3 system fault listing. Screen navigation arrows allow movement between multiple button screens.
    • Status Bar: Located at the bottom, it shows the connected controller's name, zone selection indicator, home button, fault list button, and volume control button.
  • Button Functionality:
    • Button Panels: Configured in the E3 Console, they offer various functions.
    • Button-press Protection: Requires a second press to acknowledge and initiate action, indicated by black/gray diagonal stripes.
    • Button-press Confirmation: Opens a dialog box for confirmation before activating the function.
    • Button-press Indication: Displays a green LED in the upper right corner (and lower right for redundant systems) when pressed.
  • System Menu: Accessed from the title bar, it includes:
    • SYSTEM LOGOUT: Disconnects from the controller and returns to the initial IPAP screen.
    • SYSTEM RECONNECT: Attempts to re-establish a fresh connection to the controller.
    • CONNECTED SYSTEMS: Lists available E3 controllers for the current PIN, allowing users to switch systems.
    • MICROPHONE SETTINGS: Configures microphone behavior, including disabling it or setting the minimum level threshold.
    • EXIT APPLICATION: Closes the connection and exits the application.
  • Zone Selection Indicator: A yellow bulls-eye icon that opens the "DESIGNATED ZONES" dialog box, allowing deselection of previously chosen zones or clearing all selected zones.
  • Home Button: Provides a quick link to the primary button screen.
  • Fault List Button: A flag icon in the status bar that turns red when faults exist. Clicking it displays a listing of system faults, which can be acknowledged individually or all at once.
  • Connection Heartbeat(s): Pulsating red heart indicators verify the connection state to controllers. A white heartbeat signals a loss of connection to a specific controller in redundant systems.
  • Fault Status Indicator(s): LEDs matching the controller's fault LED, indicating the most urgent fault in the system. Redundant systems have two LEDs.
  • PA In Use Indicator(s): Green indicators showing audio transmission from each controller (two for redundant systems).

Maintenance Features:

  • Automatic Updates: The application is designed to automatically check for and install updates.
  • Connection Loss Handling: In A-B or N+1 systems, if communication is lost with a controller, the main screen displays a notification with options to "Reconnect" or "Dismiss" the warning. The system automatically reconnects when the controller becomes online again.
  • Fault Monitoring: The fault list provides detailed information on system faults, allowing operators to acknowledge and manage issues.
