Turnofftheelectricalpowersupplyandclosethemanualgasshutoffvalve
andthemanualwatercontrolvalvebeforeservicing.
MAINTENANCEANDSERVICE
Besurethatallopeningsforcombustionandventilationairarenotblocked.
Theventingsystemshouldbecheckedannuallyforanyleaks,corrosion,blockagesordamage.
Theburnershouldbecheckedannuallyfordust,lint,greaseordirt.
Keep the area around the water
heater clear. Remove any combustible materials, gasoline or any
flammablevaporsandliquids.
Inaccordancewithalllocalcodesandcommo nsafetypractices,Waterdischargedfromthepressure
reliefvalecancausesevereburnsinstantlyfromscalding.DONOTtouchthepressurereliefvalve.
Ifthereliefvalve
dischargesperiodically,itmaybeduetothermalexpansioninaclosedwatersupply
system.Contactthewatersupplierorlocalplumbinginspectoronhowtocorrectthissituation.
Visualcheckofburnerflames(seebelow)throughtheburnerwindowintheburnerassemblylocated
atthemiddleofthe
waterheater.
Hydro‐Smartrecommendshavingtheunitcheckedonceayearorasnecessarybyalicensedtechnician.
Ifrepairsareneeded,anyrepairsshouldbedonebyalicensedtechnician.
UNITDRAINING
1. Closethemanualgasshutoffvalve.
2. Turn off power to the unit and wait a couple of
seconds.Turnonagain.
3. Wait30seconds,andthenturnoffpowertotheunit,
yetagain.
4. Closethewatershutoffvalve.
5. Open all hot water
taps in the house. When the
residual water flow has ceased, close all hot water
taps.
6. Have a bucket or pan to catch the water from the
unit’sdrainplugs.Unscrew
thetwodrainplugs(Large
andsmall)todrainallthewateroutoftheunit.
7. Wait a few minutes to ensure all water has
completelydrainedfromunit.
8. Securelyscrewthedrainplugsbackintoplace.Hand‐
tightenonly.
