followed.Ifyouinstallthimbles,firestopsorotherprotectivedevicesandthey
penetrateanycombustibleornoncombustibleconstruction,besuretofollowall
applicablenationalandlocalcodes.

Thewaterheatermustbevented inaccordance with the section “VentingofEquipment"ofthelatest
editionoftheNationalFuelGasCode:ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54intheUnitedStatesand/orSection7ofthe
CAN/CSA B149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code in
Canada, as well as applicable local
buildingcodes.
Hydro‐Smartrecommendsthe“T‐Vent”linemanufacturedbyTAKAGI(Referto“T‐Vent”brochurefor
details).However,thefollowingarealsoULlisted manufacturers:ProTechSystemsInc.(FasNSeal),Flex‐
LInc.,Z‐FlexInc.(Z‐VentIII),Metal‐FabInc.,andHeat‐FabInc.(Saf‐TVent).
Generalrulesforventingwaterheatersare:
Placethewaterheaterascloseaspossibletotheventterminator.
Theventcollarofthewaterheatermustbefasteneddirectlytoanunobstructedventpipe.
Donotweldtheventpipetothewaterheater’sventcollar.
Donotcuttheventcollaroftheun it.
Theventmustbeeasilyremovablefromth etopofthewaterheaterfornormalserviceand
inspectionoftheunit.
Thewaterheaterventmustnotbeconnectedtoanyothergasapplianceorventstack.
Avoid
usinganoversizedventpipeorusingextremelylongrunsofthepipe.
Forrooftopventing,araincaporotherformofterminationthatpreventsrainwaterfrom
enteringintothewaterheatermustbeinstalled.
Donotcommonventorconnectanyventfromotherappliances
tothewaterheatervent.
Generalrulesforventterminations:
Avoidlocatingthewaterheaterventterminatornearanyairintakedevices.Thesefanscan
pickupthe exhaust flueproducts fromthe water heater andreturn them to the building.
Thiscancreateahealthhazard.
Locate the vent terminator so that
it cannot be blocked by any debris, at any time. Most
codesrequirethattheterminatorbeatleast12inchesabove grade,buttheinstallermay
determineifitshouldbehigherdependingonthejobsiteconditionandapplicablecodes.
Apropersidewall terminatoris re commendedwhen
thewaterheaterisventedthrougha
sidewall.
