SCH33 Heating System
8.2 Domestic Hot Water System
The components needed for installation and operation of the
domestic hot water system include:
Heat exchanger The ITR supplied stainless-steel flat
plate heat exchanger is UL and CSA approved for domestic
water heating. If a hot water heater with an internal heat
transfer coil is used, this heat exchanger can be added to
provide quick recovery and continuous hot water output after
the hot water storage has been depleted.
Aquastat An aquastat (temperature sensor) signals the
burner to fire and maintain system cycling temperature when
there is a call for hot water. The ITR supplied heat exchanger
uses a pre-set aquastat (part #1116) and a hot water heater
uses an adjustable aquastat (part #1024).
Mixing valve For temperature control of the domestic
water and to prevent scalding (water temperature could
reach 180°F (82°C)) a water tempering valve (part#24558)
must be installed. It is recommended to install a hot water
tempering valve (mixing valve) supplied by ITR pre-set to
120°F (49°C). The mixing valve works automatically to
maintain the preset maximum temperature
Domestic water sensing switch If desired, you can
install a manual switch to turn the domestic hot water
sensing circuit on and off. This switch is connected to the W1
and W2 terminals on the accessory terminal block. Refer to
Section 6, Pg. 6-9, Figure 6-3 Wiring Diagram
A heat exchanger is
located external to
the Oasis SCH33 to
provide continuous
hot water once the
cycling temperature
of the heater has
been reached. The
burner must be
operating in order to
supply hot water for
more than a few
minutes.
