Final Brake Checks
Ensure that the brake lever does not pull to the
handlebars when brakes are applied. The lever
should feel rm and solid at the end of the travel.
If the levers travel to the bars or feel spongy, they
may require adjustment by a cycle mechanic.
Hydraulic brakes are self-adjusng, so you won’t
need to adjust the pads as the wear down. They
will feel lighter than cable brakes and may need
some geng used too.
New Brakes Bedding in Procedure
New brakes or brake pads will need to be bedded in for
them to be fully eecve. If you do not bed the brakes
in braking will be inconsistent and feel “weak”.
1. Find a safe area that will allow you to build up a
moderate amount of speed (a shallow hill for
example).
2. Accelerate the tricycle to a moderate speed and
squeeze the brakes unl you reach a walking
speed. Remain seated the enre me.
3. Repeat this process unl the tricycle decelerates
faster with the same eort. Around 20 mes
4. Now repeat at a slightly higher speed, decelerang
to a walking speed before accelerang again.
Repeat around 10 mes.
