CHAPTER 5: SPLASHPROOF-II TPU
For use in open boat operations where exposure to rain and spray is likely, a
lightweight, rugged, splashproof configuration of the Transceiver and Processor
Unit (TPU) is available. Like the rack mount version of the TPU, the Splashproof-
II TPU (SP-II TPU) connects to the towfish and to the Ethernet port of an optional
or user supplied laptop computer running SonarPro.
5.1 General Description
The Splashproof-II TPU is
shown in Figure 5-1. The
SP-II TPU is built into a
rugged, lightweight
splashproof case and
contains the electronics for
downlink multiplexing of
control signals to the
towfish and uplink
demultiplexing of sonar
and sensor data from the
towfish. All of the
connectors, indicators and
switches are splashproof
and are located on a panel
on the side of the unit. The
SP-II TPU is powered from
either an AC or DC power
source which is operator
selectable with a switch on
the side panel.
As in the case of the rack mount TPU, most operator functions are
accomplished through the use of an optional or user supplied computer running
SonarPro, a comprehensive Windows based software program, available from
Klein Marine Systems, Inc., that provides multiple displays of real-time or
saved sonar and sensor data and towfish status.
CAUTION Do not submerge the SP-II TPU in water as it is not designed
for continuous immersion.
