3.5 Fuel Conversion Procedures
Note:
The Direct acting Electronic Pressure Regulator (DEPR) and air/fuel mixer are specially calibrated emission-control devices. Do
not adjust the DEPR or the air/fuel mixer.
This section is not applicable to auto dual fuel changeover systems.
The generator set is easily configurable for use with either NG or LPG. System configuration for NG or LPG requires changing
some electrical connections on the wiring harness. These adjustments will ensure that the proper fuel and spark timing are
supplied to the engine.
Note:
The fuel type is factory preset for natural gas. When using NG, no changes are required.
Fuel Conversion Procedures
Refer to Figure 25 when changing the harness connections.
Converting from NG to LPG
1. Disconnect leads 70T/70H and N16 from fuel valve FV1. Tape these leads out of the way.
2. Connect leads 70R/70G and N28 to fuel valve FV1 as shown in Figure 25.
3. Disconnect leads 70T and 77 from fuel valve FV2. Tape these leads out of the way.
4. Connect leads 78 and 70R to fuel valve FV2 as shown in Figure 25.
5. Connect lead N17 to lead 49.
6. Using the RDC2 controller or Kohler SiteTech, change the fuel type to LPG. See Figure 26.
Converting from LPG to NG
1. Disconnect lead N17 from lead 49.
2. Disconnect leads 70R/70G and N28 from fuel valve FV1. Tape these leads out of the way.
3. Connect leads 70T/70H and N16 to fuel valve FV1 as shown in Figure 25.
4. Disconnect leads 78 and 70R from fuel valve FV2. Tape these leads out of the way.
5. Connect leads 70T and 77 to fuel valve FV2 as shown in Figure 25.
6. Using the RDC2 controller or Kohler SiteTech, change the fuel type to NG. See Figure 26.
Converting the fuel will change the generator set rating. See the generator set specification sheet for ratings with natural gas
and LP. Order a new nameplate with the updated rating and fuel information from a Kohler authorized dealer. Provide the
following information from the original nameplate:
Model Number
kVA
Spec Number
Amps
Serial Number
Volts
Fuel (original and new)
Hz
kW
Attach the new nameplate over the old one. Do not cover the UL listing information on the old nameplate.
