1.1 Scope of the document
These instructions are applicable only to the explosion-protection version of the LT40 reed-chain
level transmitter. For all other data, use the Quick Start and Handbook. If you do not have these
documents, please contact the nearest sales office or download them from the manufacturer's
website.
1.2 Device description
The reed-chain level transmitter is attached adjacent to the measuring chamber of the BM26A
series bypass level indicator. The measuring chamber is certified for use in hazardous areas
under CSAE 21UKEX6533X or CSAE 21UKEX6534X. The reed-chain level transmitter changes a
variable resistance from a reed chain to an analog or digital output. This resistance agrees with
the level of the float in the measuring chamber.
This equipment is approved for use in potentially explosive atmospheres when equipped with the
appr
opriate options.
1.3 Standards and approvals

explosion protection. The technical data for the non-Ex version in the Handbook shall be valid in
its current version, provided that it is not rendered invalid or replaced by these supplementary
instructions.

In compliance with Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive
Atmospheres Regulations 2016, the UKEX versions of the reed-chain level transmitter described
in these Supplementary Instructions conform to Designated Standards EN IEC 60079-0:2018,
EN 60079-1:2014 and EN 60079-11:2012. The Ex ia and Ex db versions are certified for use in
hazardous areas by CSA Group under the UK-Type Examination Certificate CSAE 21UKEX1531X.
