Building a Keymap
Here’safairlyimportantpointthatmayormaynotaffectyourkeymapconstruction.Suppose
youwanttobuildakeymapthatusesthesamesampleinseveraladjacentkeyranges,andyou
plantoaddabitofdetuningtothesamplesineachrange.Youmightthinkthatyou
couldbuild
thekeymapfirst,thengointotheSampleEditorandtweakthesamplesettingsofeachkeyrange
whenthekeymapisfinished.Yes,but…
SupposeyouusedthetechniquewedescribedabovetoassignasamplewhoserootwasC4toa
keyrangefromA3toE
4.ThenyouassignedthesamesampletoakeyrangefromF4toB4.
YoumightbesurprisedtofindthatwhenyoufinishedtheF4–B4keyrangeandthe
Keymap‐editorpagereappeared,thecurrentkeyrangewouldnotbeF4toB4,
butA3toB4!
ThisisbecausethePC3automaticallymergesadjacentkeyrangesthatareidentical(thisisdone
tosavememory).Therefore,someparametermustbedifferentineachadjacentkeyrangeyou
createifyouwanttobuildkeymapsusingthetechniquewejustdescribed.So
ifyouwanttouse
thesamesamplesinadjacentkeyrangeswith,forexample,minorpitchorvolumemodification,
youshouldmakethosechangestothecurrentsampleontheKeymap‐editorpagebefore
assigningthenextrange.
