5. Place the differential with the open side down;
then lift the housing off the spider assembly.
Account for shim(s) and mark as right-side.

6. Using the 48 mm Internal Hex Socket, remove the
lock collar securing the pinion gear assembly.
NOTE: On a front differential, the lock collar has
right-hand threads. On a rear gear case, the lock
collar has left-hand threads.

7. Using the Pinion Gear/Shaft Removal Tool and a
hammer, remove the pinion gear from the gear
case housing.

8. Secure the pinion gear in a bearing puller; then
remove the pinion bearing using a press. Account
for a collar and a bearing.
