8CHAPTER 1
Safety
Deadman Switch
The deadman switch is used as a
safety device to ensure every
movement of the arm from the joystick
is absolutely wanted and controlled by
the operator. That is, if the operator is
not pressing the deadman switch while
trying to move the arm with the
joystick, no movement will occur.
Therefore, the operator must be
consciously pressing the deadman
switch to operate the arm. With such
a safety feature, whatever accidental
movement caused to the joystick will
not be transmitted to the arm as a
command signal.
