LACIE CLOUDBOX STORAGE AND WUALA SECURE CLOUD STORAGE
The Tutorial Share Large Files provides instructions on creating an account on Wuala secure cloud storage (
Share Large Files). Wuala is cloud storage by LaCie that uses high-end encryption to guarantee the security of
your data. No one, not even LaCie, can access your files and password. Since it is cloud storage, your Wuala
account is available anywhere with a connection to the internet.
Wuala secure cloud storage is separate from the storage on your LaCie CloudBox:
Your LaCie CloudBox is personal cloud storage that you keep in your home.
Wuala is an online service that allows you to store data on secure offsite storage.
All Wuala users receive 5GB of free Wuala cloud storage. Your LaCie CloudBox gets you an additional 10GB of
Wuala cloud storage for one year. Instructions for taking advantage of your additional cloud storage are
available at Share Large Files.
Backup to the cloud
As explained in Backup, it is very important to backup all the files stored on your household computers. It is also
important to consider backing up your most critical files to storage that is not kept in your home. This is called
an offsite backup and it can include:
Backups to cloud storage, such as Wuala.
Backups to storage outside the home, such as a second LaCie CloudBox at a relative’s house.
Offsite backups give you peace of mind since your files are protected from worst-case scenarios such as:
Hard drive failure
Fire
Flood
Natural disaster
Theft
