The Lely Splendimo 280/320 FC is a front-mounted mower-conditioner designed for efficient grass mowing and conditioning. This compact machine is ideal for combination with a rear-mounted mower or a pick-up wagon for summer feeding, and its front-mounted linkage makes it suitable for mowing in hard-to-reach areas.
Function Description:
The Splendimo FC features a cutter bar and a conditioner unit. The cutter bar is equipped with mower discs that utilize the Lely Splendimo Clip quick-change system. The cutter bar is modular, consisting of cutting units and intermediate spacers held together by a connecting rod. The first cutting unit (drive element) is driven from the top, and a spring-steel shaft drives the other units, requiring minimal power. The elements rotate in pairs, either to the left or right.
The Impeller conditioner unit comprises a rotor with flails made from impact-resistant synthetic material, a metal hood with swath boards, and a crop inlet plate for adjusting conditioning intensity. The conditioner unit operates over almost the entire cutting width, treating the crop by removing patches of the waxy layer on stems and breaking thick stems. The crop is then slightly turned and laid down behind the machine in an airy, narrow swath, minimizing contact with the moist field and eliminating the need to drive on mown crops. The mower can be fully controlled by a single hydraulic ram.

Usage Features:
- Linkage to Tractor: Designed for front hydraulics, with a strong emphasis on ensuring the tractor hydraulics are single-acting or can be placed in a floating position to prevent damage to the mower on uneven terrain. Quick hitch (ISO 11001-2) compatibility.
- Transport: The machine can be transported in the tractor's hydraulics. Safety guards must be folded up or removed, and the hydraulic ram fully retracted. A ball valve must be closed to lock the transport position. The PTO shaft must never rotate during transport.
- Mowing Height Adjustment: Two positions for "rough" pre-adjustment. Finer adjustment is achieved by adjusting the forward inclination of the cutter bar using the top link.
- Conditioning Intensity Adjustment: Adjustable via the conditioner's crop inlet plate (five intermediate positions, A for highest, B for lowest intensity), rotor speed, and conditioner rotor position (for Splendimo 320 FC).
- Ground Pressure Adjustment: Mechanical ground pressure relief system with a spring assembly. Adjustable using a locking pin (top hole for lowest ground pressure, lower hole for highest).
- Swath Width Adjustment: Adjustable from 1.2 to 2.8 m (280 FC) or 1.2 to 3.2 m (320 FC) using an adjusting device and swath board extensions for narrower swaths.
- Operation: Ensure no one is within 100 m during operation. Safety guards, canopies, and plating must be fitted and in good condition. Engage PTO at the lowest engine RPM, then increase to 540 or 1,000 RPM. Lower the cutter bar just above crop level, then into the crop, and place the hydraulic valve in the floating position. Maintain working speeds of approximately 8 km/h to ensure proper crop flow.
- Dismounting: Place the machine on hard ground, lower the mowing conditioner section, remove protective cover chains, and for the 320 FC, fit locking pins. Lower the machine, switch off the tractor, disengage the PTO shaft, depressurize hydraulics, and carefully reverse the tractor to clear the quick hitch.
Maintenance Features:
- General Maintenance: Clean the machine thoroughly after operation. Check mower knives and discs for tightness and damage. Check protective covers. Grease with an anti-corrosion agent, especially the piston rod for long storage.
- Lubrication: All lubrication points use biodegradable grease (Total Biomultis SEP2). PTO shafts, cross assemblies, protection tubes, overrun safety, and profiled tubes require greasing every 8 working hours. Bearing blocks of the conditioner rotor require greasing every 8 working hours. The PTO shaft above the drive element needs greasing every 500 working hours (or yearly). All other pivot points require greasing every 40 working hours.
- Periodic Maintenance: To be carried out at the start of the mowing season, before prolonged storage, and during extensive use. Includes greasing all points, checking PTO shaft telescoping, checking V-belt tension (10 mm push-in with 70 N force), checking wear plates, mower discs, and knives.
- Knife Replacement: Mower knives have two cutting edges and should be replaced in pairs for balance. Special care and attention are required due to safety risks. The process involves removing dirt, using a special tool to release the clip, removing the knife pin, and installing a new knife and clip, ensuring it is properly locked.
- Oil Change in Gearboxes: For new mowers or new gearboxes, change oil after approximately 30 working hours, then every 250 working hours. Involves draining old oil and filling with specific quantities of GX85-W140 transmission oil (1.7 L for gearbox A, 0.85 L for gearbox B, 0.45 L for drive element C). Incorrect oil quantity can cause overheating and damage.
- Grease Replacement in Mower Elements: Every 500 working hours or 1,000 hectares. Involves removing the mower disc, dismounting the bearing housing, cleaning, filling with 100 g of Shell Alvania WR 0 grease, and reassembling with specific torque settings and Loctite 243.
- Cutter Bar Repairs: Modular design allows quick replacement of cutting units or drive shafts. Requires installing supports if lifted, dismounting securing plates, loosening bolts, and carefully sliding elements from the connecting rod. Mower discs must be turned 90° in relation to one another during reassembly.
- Disc Replacement on Drive Element: Involves removing bolts from covers and protection bushes, dismounting the yoke, removing the hat, dismounting the mower disc, and reassembling with Loctite 243 and specific torque settings.
- Wear Plates: Available in 4 or 8 mm thicknesses to protect skids from abrasion.
- Topping Skids: Fitted underneath skids to increase mowing height by approximately 3 cm, reducing ground contact and protecting knives in rough conditions.
- Agitators: Fitted on mower discs to improve crop transport across the cutter bar, especially in certain conditions.
- Crop Divider: Ensures that unmown crop is pushed to the side, preventing accumulation when mowing very long crops.
- V-belt Pulley for 900 or 1,000 r.p.m. of Conditioner Rotor: Allows adjustment of conditioner rotor speed to suit prevailing circumstances (less intensive conditioning or improved crop transport).
- Spreading Kit: Spreading fins can be installed to disperse crop across the full width of the cutter bar, potentially saving a tedding operation.
- Conditioner Rotor with Plastic or Steel Flails: Steel flails are an option for the Splendimo 320 FC, offering greater durability in dry, dusty, or tough crop conditions compared to standard plastic flails.
- Side-shift Headstock: Allows the front-mounted mower to hydraulically move 15 cm left or right, providing flexibility and ensuring overlap on slopes.
- Extensions for Three-point Hitch: Creates more space between the machine and tractor wheels for certain tractor models.
- Lighting Set: Available for indicating the machine's 3.0 m transport width on public roads.
