Thischapterprovidesinstructionsonhowtousesomebasicapplicationsandmanyofyourtablet’sfeatures.
ChangingtheWindows8.1startupbehaviortoopeneitherthedesktop
ortheStartscreen
OntheWindows8.1operatingsystem,youcansetthecomputertoopeneitherthedesktoportheStart
screenbydefault.Tosetthedefaultstartupscreen,dothefollowing:
1.Onthedesktop,tapandholdonthetaskbar.Amenuisdisplayed.
2.TapProperties.TheTaskbarandNavigationpropertieswindowisdisplayed.
3.OntheNavigationtab,locatetheStartscreensection,andthendooneofthefollowing:
•Tosetthedesktopasyourdefaultstartupscreen,selectWhenIsigninorcloseallappsona
screen,gotothedesktopinsteadofStartsoacheckisvisible.
•TosettheStartscreenasyourdefaultstartupscreen,removethecheckfromtheWhenIsigninor
closeallappsonthescreen,gotodesktopinsteadofStartcheckbox.
4.TapOKtosavethenewsetting.
ThisfeatureisnotavailableontheWindows8operatingsystem.
BrowsingtheInternet
UsethebrowsertosurftheInternetandsearchforinformationontheWeb.
Note:Ifyouchoosetouseamobiledatanetwork,youmighthavetosignupforadataplanwithyour
servicecarrierinyourarea.Withsomecarriers,youcanchooseadataplan,trackyourdatausage,and
changeorcancelyourplan.Withsomeplansyoupaybasedontheamountofdataused,whilewithother
plansyoupayafixedfeeforunlimiteddatause.
SomeWebsitesrequireyoutoenterausernameandpasswordbeforeyoucangainaccess.ThePassword
ManagerprogrampromptsyoutostoreyourlogoninformationwhenyouaccessaWebsite.Afterthe
PasswordManagerprogramstoresyourlogoninformation,itautomaticallylogsyouonthenexttimeyou
accesstheWebsiteorapplication.FormoreinformationaboutthePasswordManagerprogram,seethe

Usingyourtabletforentertainment
Useyourtablettotakepicturesandvideos,listentomusic,watchmovies,andreadbooks.
Usingheadphonesorearphones
Yourtablethasaheadphoneconnectorthatyoucanuseforavarietyoflisteningdevicessuchas
headphones,earphones,andearbuds.Listeningwiththevolumeturneduptoohighfortoolongcanleadto
hearingloss.Thesymptomsofhearingdamagemightbeprogressiveandnotnoticedatfirst.
Takethefollowingprecautions:
1.Limittheamountoftimeyouuseheadphones,earphones,earbuds,orotherdevicesthatprovide
sounddirectlyintoyourears.
2.Avoidusinghighvolumetoblocksurroundingnoise.
