TheRemoteConsoleistheredirectedscreen,keyboardandmouseoftheremotehostsystemwherethe
RemoteManagementModuleisinstalled.TousetheRemoteConsolewindowofyourmanagedhost
system,thebrowsermustincludeaJava*RuntimeEnvironmentplug-in.IfthebrowserhasnoJavasupport,
suchaswithasmallhandhelddevice,theusercanmaintaintheremotehostsystemusingtheadministration
formsdisplayedbythebrowser.
StartingtheRemoteConsoleopensanewwindowtodisplaythescreencontentofthehostsystem.The
RemoteConsoleactsasiftheadministratorweresittingdirectlyinfrontofthescreenofhis/herremote
system.Thismeansthekeyboardandmousecanbeusedintheusualway.
Launchtheredirectionconsole
TheRemoteConsoleistheredirectedkeyboard,videoandmouseoftheremotehostsystemwherethe
RemoteManagementModuleisinstalled.LaunchtheremoteconsoleKVMredirectionwindowfromthis
page.
Step1.ClickLaunchConsoletolaunchtheredirectionconsoleandremotelymanagetheserver.
Step2.Apop-upwindowisdisplayedandbeginstodownloadtheJavaNetworkLaunchProtocol—
jviewer.jnlple.ThisinturndownloadsthestandaloneJavaapplicationimplementingtheRemote
Console.
BothMicrosoftInternetExplorerandMozillaFirefoxbrowsersaresupported.
Notes:
•YoumustinstalltheJavaRun-TimeEnvironment(JRE,version6update10orlater)ontheclient
priortothelaunchofaJNLPle.
•Theclientbrowsermustallowpop-upwindowsfromtheRemoteManagementModuleIP
address.
TheRemoteConsolewindowisaJavaAppletthatestablishesTCPconnectionstotheRemote
ManagementModulemodule.TheprotocolthatisrunovertheseconnectionsisauniqueKVM
protocolandnotHTTPorHTTPS.Thisprotocolusesports#7578forKVM,#5120forCDROM
mediaredirection,and#5123forFloppy/USBmediaredirection.Y ourlocalnetworkenvironment
mustpermittheseconnectionstobemade,i.e.yourrewalland,incaseyouhaveaprivateinternal
network,yourNAT(NetworkAddressTranslation)settingshavetobeconguredaccordingly.
Mainwindow
StartingtheRemoteConsoleopensanadditionalwindow.
Thewindowdisplaysthescreencontentofyourremoteserver.TheRemoteConsolewillbehaveasif
youwerelocatedattheremoteserver.Theresponsivenessmaybeslightlydelayeddependingonthe
bandwidthandlatencyofthenetworkbetweentheRemoteManagementModuleandRemoteConsole.
EnablingKVMand/ormediaencryptionontheConguration➙RemoteSessionwebpagewilldegrade
performanceaswell.
TheRemoteConsolewindowalwaysshowstheremotescreeninitsoptimalsize.Thismeansitwilladaptits
sizetothesizeoftheremotescreeninitiallyandafterthescreenresolutionoftheremotescreenhasbeen
changed.However,youcanalwaysresizetheRemoteConsolewindowinyourlocalwindowasusual.
