Inspect and repair the vehicle at

Air Bag for Driver and Front Passenger
Air bag system is a supplemental re stra int
system ( SRS) , which is a supplement to
the seat belt. The system can pro vide an
additional pro tection for the head and
chest of driver and passenger in a fro ntal
crash and reduce injury and death.
The air bag system can not take place of the
safe ty belt, for it is just a part of the whole
passive safe ty protection system in vehicle.

System Component
Air Bag Warning Lamp
SRS air bag system includes the following
assemblies, whose positions are shown
in the above figure.
1. SRS warn ing lamp
2. Front pas se nge r ai r bag asse mbl y
(air bag and air ch ar ging dev ice)
3. Driver air bag assembly (air bag and
air charging device)
4. Air bag ECU (Electronic Control Unit)
It consists of a safety sensor and safety
air bag sensor.
The air bag system, monitored by ECU, has
a self-diagnostic function. It indicates the
system status thro ugh the warn ing lamp
on the instru ment panel:
● After the ign ition switch is turned on, the
air ba g warni ng lamp ligh ts up for abou t 5 s,
and then go es out. In this case , the syst em
is no rmal .
● If th e air bag has been closed by
sta tion , warning lamp will be always on when
turn ing on th e igniti on switc h, which means th is
system pro vides no pro te cti on at th is moment.

The warn ing lamp syste m is to monito r th e air
bag ECU, fro nt seat safe ty belt pretensioner
assembly, air charg ing device, warn ing lamp,
wirin g and power supply (S ee Secti on 1-5
“Mainte nance In dicato r and Warn ing Buzzer”
for deta il).

● Warning lamp can not go out after 5s
or twinkles again and lights up after
going out when turn ing on the ignition
switch.
● Warning lamp can not light up
when turning on the ignition switch.
The followi ng situations indicate that
the air bag system has troubles or
has been closed.
● Warning lamp twinkles or lights up
when driving.
