Profiles and Ramps
On the LinkPad 'Ramp' refers to a n individual group of s ettings (rate, limit, hold time, etc.) tha t ma ke up one step in a n experiment, and a profile is a
combina tion of ramps tha t makes up a comple te experiment.
For example a profile could consist of 3 ramps, with the first being s et to increase from ambient tempera ture to 100°C at 50°C/min, the second to
heat from 100 to 150 at 10°C/min and the third to heat from 150 to 160 at 1°C/min and hold at 160 for 10 minutes. An exa mple of a 4 ra mp profile is
shown below:
The following s ection describes how to configure, save, import and export these temperature profiles.
Creating a profile
A profile is created by entering va lues into multiple ramps and setting a start ra mp and an end ramp.
To select a ramp to edit, tap on either the ra mp up control (11) or the ra mp down control (12). Once the desired ra mp is selected, its properties ca n
be edited by ta pping on the blue 'Ramp' displa y - the following options dialogue will appear:
1. Copy ramp
2. Pa ste ramp
3. Clear Profile
4. Clear ramp
5. Set sta rt ramp
6. Set end ramp
7. Toggle cycle mode
The copy ra mp control (1) will copy all the values in the currently selected ra mp into memory, these values can be then pas ted into another ramp via
the pa ste ra mp control (2).
The clea r profile control (3) will res et all ramps to default values and the clear ramp control (4) will reset the currently s elected ra mp to zero values .
The clea r ramp control cannot be us ed on ra mp 1.
The set start ramp control (5) s ets the currently selected ra mp to be the firs t in the profile. Use this if you wis h your profile to start on a ra mp other
tha n ramp 1. The set end ra mp control (6) sets the currently selected ramp to be the end ramp of the profile. This can not be applied to ramp 1.
The start ra mp of the profile will be highlighted in da rk blue and the end ramp will be highlighted in red. When an experiment is in progress the
currently active ramp will be highlighted in light blue.
The cycle mode control (7) will toggle ramp cycling on and off. When this is on the profile will return to the start ra mp once it finishes the end ramp,
whereas when it is off the profile will finis h once it completes the end ramp. When cycle mode is engaged the screen is updated to reflect this.
Note: A profile will finish if it reaches a ra mp with a rate setting of 0.
