Basic stage controls
Heating or cooling the Stage
To set the desired ta rget temperature, tap on the limit control (3) a nd a keypad will appear:
Enter the required value by ta pping on the numbers. The currently set limit and the ra nge of a cceptable limit values for the connected stage are
shown to the left of the keypa d.
To set the desired rate of temperature cha nge, tap on the Rate control (2) a nd a keypad will appear:
Enter the desired ra te using the keypad. The currently set ra te and the range of acceptable rate values are displayed to the left of the keypad. The
units can be changed between °C/minute a nd °C/hour from this keypad. Changing the units will update the acceptable ra nge of values.
To set the hold time, which is the amount of time the system will ma intain the ta rget tempera ture once reached, tap on the Hold control (4) a nd a
keypad will appear:
Enter the desired hold time in hours , minutes and seconds.
If using a s ystem with a liquid nitrogen pump (LNP), the LNP speed value (5) will default to automa tic. This means tha t the s ystem will control the
flow ra te of liquid nitrogen to match the ra te of tempera ture cha nge specified. If you wish to ma nually control the speed of the liquid nitrogen flow,
ta p on the LNP speed (5) a nd a keypa d will appear:
Tap on 'Man' to change the pump to manual mode and enter the desired pump speed as a percentage of ma ximum speed, with 100 being maximum
speed.
Note: That using the LNP in this way may impa ct the accuracy of the rate of temperature cha nge. We recommend using the LNP in automatic mode
where possible.
Note: If you are us ing a stage with a Peltier element tha t cools us ing the thermoelectric effect, such as the PE120, there are no additional settings
needed for cooling. A resistance heated stage s uch as the THMS600 cannot cool below ambient temperature without the us e of an LNP.
Once the required values have been set, begin the experiment by taping on the sta rt button (6). This will cha nge to a stop button while the system is
active. The experiment can be pa used at any time by ta ping on the pause control (9).
The Heat override (7) or Cool override (8) controls can be tapped at any time during a n experiment to force the stage to heat or cool at the currently
set ra te. These controls will not function unless there is a currently active ramp.
