3.4 SolsTiS Wavelength Control Unit
The SolsTiS control unit is based on M Squared Lasers’ proprietary ICE-
BLOC® series of photonic control modules. Like all ICE-BLOC modules, the
SolsTiS control unit incorporates Instrument Control by Ethernet (ICE)
functionality, which allows users to communicate with all ICE-BLOC modules
via any standard cable/ LAN/ WAN/ Internet-based Ethernet connection.

The advantages of Ethernet control over more conventional
communication protocols are many, and include: higher speed;
greater robustness; effectively infinite communication distance
without the need for repeaters; elimination of dedicated software
drivers (because control is via Web-based browser interface); and
the ability to network multiplex multiple ICE-BLOC modules,
providing simple system expansion and highly flexible control
architectures.

software UI and netbook.)
