23.15 Replace Engine Oil and Oil Filter
Always change the oil filter and copper washer whenever changing
oil.
1. Position the vehicle on a flat level surface.
2. Run the engine for two to three minutes until warm.
3. Stop the engine, place the gear selector in gear and set the
parking brake.
4. Clean the area around the drain plug. (Refer to the below
image)
5. Place a drain pan beneath the engine crankcase.
Contact with hot oil can result in skin burns. Do not allow hot
oil to contact skin.
6. Remove the drain plug. Allow the oil to drain completely.
7. It is recommended to remove and replace the copper sealing
washer. The sealing surfaces on drain plug and crankcase
should be clean and free of burrs, nicks or scratches.
8. Reinstall the drain plug and a new copper sealing washer.
Torque between 30-40 Nm.
9. Place shop towels beneath the oil filter. Using an oil filter
wrench, turn the filter counterclockwise to remove it. (Refer
to the below image)
10. Using a clean dry cloth, clean the filter sealing surface on the
crankcase. And verify the old o-ring is not stuck to the engine
block.
11. Lubricate the o-ring on the new filter with a film of fresh
engine oil. Check to make sure the o-ring is in good condition.
12. Install the new filter and turn by hand until the filter gasket
contacts the sealing surface, then turn an additional 1/2 turn.
