6 Operating the Unit
The maxium is operated by display navigation using channel selector buttons, a MENU button and
a rotary switch with axial pushbutton function (“axial click”) that has been termed “Quick Step con-
trol” by Gebrüder Martin. We have made great efforts to give the maxium’s design maximum ease
of use so the system can be handled effortlessly and intuitively – despite the fact that it offers much
more functionality than its predecessors.
The maxium has been designed as a program-based HF unit. Instead of going through the labori-
ous process of setting channels anew whenever you need the unit for a specific type of surgical
intervention, you just call up an application-specific program that already contains all the settings
required. What is more, Martin delivers the unit with exemplary sets of settings, or programs, for a
whole range of different applications. Needless to say, however, the surgeon is free to modify
these programs and store them under a new name in accordance with his/her own preferences
and individual requirements.
