NETWORKCONFIGURATION
Thenetworkconfigurationmaybeviewedinsummaryby
clickingtheNetworkConfigurationbutton.
Eachdeviceisconfiguredwithadevicenamefromthe
factory.Eachdevicenameincludesthemodelnameand
aMACaddressextension.Youshouldchangethedevice
nametoonethatcanidentifythelocationof
thedevice.
Bydefault,devicenamesaretheproductname
abbreviationfollowedbythelastbitofthedevice’s
Ethernetaddress(MACaddress).Thedevicenamemay
bechangedfromthefactorydefaultnamebyenteringa
uniquenameofupto32characters.
IfaDHCPserverisavailable
onthenetworkwhenthe
GMRisinstalled,theunitwillbeauto‐registeredwiththe
DHCPserver.Thenetworksystemadministratorcanthen
viewthisDHCPnameregistrationandthecurrently
assignedIPaddressattheDHCPserver.
TheGMRallowsforStaticIPaddress,GatewayandDNS,
networkconfiguration
entriestobemademanuallyifno
DHCPserverisavailable.Inaddition,theNTPserver
addressescanbeadjustedmanually.Manual
configurationrequiresdisablingtheDHCPdefaults.

TheInputControlbuttonprovidesaccesstotheInputControlwindow,whichprovidesbuttonsforNTPClient,
TimeCodeReader,NMEAClient,NENAClient,andGPS/GNSS.

NTPisanopen‐standardtimesynchronizationprotocoldesignedforprecisionsynchronizationandmaintenanceof
time/dateoncomputersandotherdevicesattachedtoTCP/IPnetworks.NTPitselfistransportedwiththeUDP/IP
(UserDatagramProtocol),andisusuallyservedonport123.NTPtime/dateisUTC‐referenced,astheprotocolhas
noprovisionsforrepresentingTimeZonesorDaylightSavingsTime(“SummerTime”inEurope).
AwealthofusefulNTPinformationandresourcescanbefoundathttp://www.ntp.org
TheGMRacquiresitsinternalUTCtimereferencefromanNTPtimeserverbyusingabuilt‐inNTPclient.TheNTP
clientisfullyconfigurableandcanoperateinseveralNTPmodestoreferencebothaprimaryandasecondaryNTP
server.TheNTPclientcanbedisabledtoallow
operationasastand‐aloneunitwithoutanetworkconnection.
IfyouwanttosynchronizePCs,workstationsandserverstoyourGMRyoumustrunanNTP/SNTPclientonthePC
thatreceivesNTPtimefromtheGMR.ThisclientisresponsibleforaskingtheNTPserverfortime/date
information.In
somecases,itsimplylistensonthenetworkforNTPtimebroadcasts,thensetstheinternaltimeof
thecomputerordevice
MasterclockprovidesafreeSimpleNetworkTimeProtocol(SNTP)clientforusetosynchronizePCs,workstations
andservers.ThisclientappiscalledMasterSyncPCFreewareanditcan
bedownloadedfromtheMasterclock
website.Thesoftwareisprovidedas‐is,asacourtesytoourcustomers,withnotechnicalsupportprovided.
