Risk of kickback
Kickback means that the saw suddenly kicks up and backwards. This is most often caused by the tip of
the bar going against something, or when the chain jams.
Kickback causes the saw to move out of control and with great force. It can often result in the user or
someone else nearby being injured.
The biggest risk of kickback is when the tip of the bar comes into contact with something, because this is
when there is most leverage. You should therefore always position the saw as level as possible.
IMPORTANT:
• Always make sure to keep the chain properly tensioned.
• Only use tools in good condition.
• Only work with chains that are properly sharpened and undamaged.
• Never saw with top part of the bar or the tip.
• Always hold the saw with both hands.
Sawing timber under pressure
Be extra careful when sawing timber under pressure, when the tension is released it can result in an
uncontrolled movement. This can cause serious personal injury and/or death. This type of work should
only be carried out by qualified personnel.
MAINTENANCE
Replacing the chain and bar
The bar must be replaced when:
• the slot in the bar is worn
• the sprocket in the bar is damaged or worn
See the section on fitting the bar and chain.
Checking the automatic chain lubrication
Check at regular intervals that the automatic chain lubrication is working, to prevent the bar and chain
overheating and being damaged. Point the tip of the bar against a flat surface (board or the like) and run
the saw. The chain lubrication is working properly if this produces a film of oil. See, Troubleshooting
section if no oil film is formed.
If you cannot rectify the fault, hand in the tool to be serviced.
IMPORTANT: Do not touch the surface. Keep a safe distance of 20 cm.
Sharpening the chain
The chain saw will only work properly if the chain is in good condition and correctly sharpened. This also
reduces the risk of kickback. Never try to sharpen the chain yourself if you do not have the right tools and
know-how.
Cleaning and storage
• Clean the chain tensioning mechanism regularly with compressed air or a brush. Do not use tools for
cleaning.
• Keep the handles free from oil.
• Clean the tool with a damp cloth and when necessary a mild detergent.
• Empty the oil out of the tank if you are not going to be using the saw for a long time. Put the chain
and bar in an oil bath and then wrap them up in paper.
IMPORTANT:
• Unplug the power cord before cleaning.
• Never immerse the tool in water or any other liquid.
• Store the chain saw in a dry place, out of the reach of children.
