Felling trees
If two or more persons are felling trees at the same time, the distance between them must be at least
twice the length of the height of the trees. Make sure when felling trees that no other persons are
exposed to danger and that there are no power lines or other objects that can be damaged. Contact the
power line owner immediately if a felled tree comes into contact with power or telephone lines.
When sawing on sloping ground the user must stand above the felled tree, because it could start to roll
down the slope..
Plan a retreat route, and if necessary clear it, before starting the felling. The retreat route must go back at
an angle from the direction of fall.
Before starting, estimate where the tree will fall on the basis of the angle of the tree and the distribution of
branches, including the direction of the wind.
Remove any dirt, stones, loose bark, nails, clamps or lines etc. from the tree.

Undercut
Saw an undercut at right-angles to the direction of fall 1/3 of the way into the cross section of the trunk.
Saw the horizontal cut first. This prevents the chain or bar getting stuck when you saw the main cut.
