Problem Cause Solution
The engine does not
start
Engine switch turned off Turn engine switch to ON
Fuel vent cap closed Open fuel vent cap
Fuel tank empty Fill with fuel
Dirt in the carburettor or fuel
system
Clean carburettor and fuel system
Old fuel Drain old fuel and fill with new
Dirty air filter Clean or replace air filter
Engine has flooded Wait several minutes before starting
again
Incorrect electrode gap Adjust gap
Spark plug cap is not connected Connect the spark plug cap
Deposits on the electrodes Clean the electrodes
Low oil level Fill with oil
The engine runs poorly Worn spark plug Replace spark plug
Dirty air filter Clean or replace air filter
Carburettor incorrectly adjusted Adjust the carburettor
Old fuel Drain old fuel and fill with new
Engine overheating Cooling system is clogged Clean the engine and vents
Carburettor incorrectly adjusted Adjust the carburettor
