If the top thread is too tight, the top and bottom
threads will grip each other on the face of the
material. Adjust the tension by setting the thread
tensioner (1) to a lower value.
If the top thread is too loose, the top and bottom
threads will grip each other on the reverse of the
material. Adjust the tension by setting the thread
tensioner (1) to a higher value.
The thread tensioner (1) is set to 5 in the factory,
which produces attractive stitching in most
materials.
Top thread tension for zigzag stitching
To ensure perfect results when producing zigzag
seams, the top thread tension should be lower
than for straight seams. The top thread must be
visible from the reverse of the fabric.
