Waffle stitch

Thread tension: 2–6
Sew several rows of straight stitches at 1 cm intervals. Use stitch length 4, as a lower top thread tension
makes it easier to make the pleats. Tie the top and bottom threads together at one end of the fabric. Pull
the bottom thread from the other end of the fabric to create even pleats. When you have made the
pleats, secure the thread ends at the other end of the fabric. You can now sew decorative patterns with
waffle stitches over the pleats. Finally pull out the straight stitch threads on one side.
