1 Preparation for installation
Before installing and commissioning the MAPAG butterfly
valves, the pipeline system must be free of impurities, in
particular solid particles, such as welding spatter,
welding droplets, sand, etc. The pipeline system may
cleaned, for example, by vacuuming or wiping it.
2 Method of operation
The purpose of MAPAG Type A butterfly valves is to
shut off pipes and to regulate the flow of products in
both directions.
An elastic sealing ring has been chosen as the sealing
element. The butterfly valve can be used for liquids or
gases between -10 °C to +200 °C, depending on the
medium and the system configuration, information about
the exact application area for your Type A butterfly valve
can be found in the documentation compiled for your
order.
MAPAG butterfly valves are operated by an actuator
(manual, electric, pneumatic or hydraulic). There is a
mark on the actuator shaft as well as one on the O-ring
side of the body. The valve is closed when the two
marks are in line with each other.

3 Cleaning and maintenance
Type A heavy-duty valves require practically no mainte-
nance.
Check the heavy-duty valve regularly to make sure it is
not leaking. You should replace the sealing element
(320) after two years at the latest.
When you are doing this check the condition of the
O-rings (470, 419) the U-ring (475) and the bearing
bushings (410, 424) as well (see the figure on page 4).
In order to avoid extended shut downs please order a
sealing element in good time or keep a sealing element
in stock.
If the medium carries contaminants that may have an
adverse effect on valve tightness, you will need to clean
the sealing surface of the shut-off disc on a regular
basis. Contamination can damage the sealing surface
of the shut-off disc or the Sealing element.
Dont use under any circumstances agents to remove
residues that might attack the sealing surface or the
sealing element. Use water, soap suds or other liquid
solvents and a soft, lint-free cloth.
If you outsource the heavy-duty valve cleaning opera-
tion, it is essential that you draw attention to the dan-
gers of the medium being used as well as to any resi-
dues that may be present.

Do not use under any circumstances files or
sandpaper. And do not use any cleaning agents
that might cause undesirable chemical reactions
with the residues of the medium or might attack
the O-ring.
