Test
Use Out Of Vehicle Test to test and verify the condition of a battery that is not
connected to a vehicle..
IMPORTANT: To expedite the testing procedure, makes sure Auto Test is enabled.
(Chapter 6 - Settings) The testing process begins as soon as the clamps are connected.
The CPX-900 provides a battery decision along with additional detailed information on battery
state of charge and reserve capacity. Press to return to the previous screen, select
options and when necessary,
to enter or continue to the next step.
Battery Test
1. Enter Work Order - If enabled, use the displayed keyboard template to Enter Work Order infor-
mation. (See Chapter 6 - Settings)
2. Conrm Y/N: “Are you Testing a RIVIAN Battery”.
• If 'YES', proceed to Step 3.
• If 'NO' (Not a Rivian battery) proceed to standard Battery Test Setup screen to enter NON-
RIVIAN VEHICLE battery information.
NOTE: Non-RIVIAN vehicles —
The testing process uses Conductance Proling™
technology to determine battery cranking capability and Reserve Capacity. This
additional analysis can take up to 60 seconds to complete.
NOTE: RIVIAN vehicles —
The testing process uses proprietary 12V Safety Power
Capacity™ (SPC™) diagnostic technology to determine the battery State of Charge
and Reserve Capacity. This additional analysis can take up to 60 seconds to complete.
3. Connect the clamps to the battery: Red to the positive (+) terminal and Black to the negative
(--) terminal.
NOTE: The tester will display 'CLAMPS REVERSED!' if clamp polarity is reversed.
Disconnect and reverse clamp connections.
Ensure that clamps are attached securely to the terminals — a poor connection will prevent
testing and the tester will display the message 'CHECK CONNECTION'.
If, after verifying the connection the message reappears, clean the terminals and reconnect
.
4. Temperature - when prompted, hold the tester temperature sensor 6 to 12 inches over the
top of the battery being tested (as illustrated in Step 10). Select Capture to lock in the live
temperature reading.
