4.3 Tension Setup
Preparaon for a tension calibraon is similar to compression. The principle dierence is the manner in which
the unit under test is mounted in the machine. For a tension calibraon, the unit under test is connected be-
tween the lower yoke platen and the lower machine platen by means of tension members (pulling rods).
Tension members supplied with the unit under test may suce for this calibraon. The Morehouse Quick-
Change Tension Members can save me by making connecons easier and more ecient. Faster tesng and
calibraon turn-around can improve the boom line of your operaon. With this system, a set of self-aligning
tension members are installed in the tension side of the Universal Calibrang Machine. Then, a pair of Tension
Member Adapters, which are included in the kit can be used to quickly mount the unit under test into the ma-
chine and prepare for calibraon. Figure 21 illustrates how various adapters can be used for dierent instru-
ments with the same set of tension members.
Need to discuss extending the ram past 1 inch
somewhere as that damages the ram.
