What to do if the main burner goes out but the pilot stays on in my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace?
    • B
      Brittany RossAug 20, 2025
If the main burner goes out while the pilot light remains on in your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, there are several possible causes. First, the pilot flame might not be large enough or not engulfing the thermopile; in this case, turn up the pilot flame. Other solutions include cleaning the thermopile connection to the valve, shortening the remote wall switch wire, or replacing a faulty thermostat or switch. It may also be necessary to replace the pilot assembly, thermopile, or valve.

Why won't the pilot light on my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace stay lit when I release the gas knob?
    • K
      Kathleen DickersonAug 22, 2025
The gas valve has an inter-lock device which will not allow the pilot burner to be lit until the thermocouple has cooled. Allow approximately 60 seconds for the thermocouple to cool, and then try again.

    Heather MillerAug 25, 2025
What to do if there's no gas to the main burner in my Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, even though the pilot is burning and the gas knob/thermostat are on?
    • E
      Eric HallAug 25, 2025
If your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace has a burning pilot but no gas to the main burner, ensure the system is correctly purged and that you have propane gas. Try turning up the pilot flame. Also, the main burner orifice may be plugged, so remove any blockage. If the issue persists, disconnect the switch wires and connect a jumper wire across terminals 1 & 3; if the main burner lights, check the wires for defects and/or replace wires. In some cases, the valve may be faulty and require replacement.

    Janet WiseAug 26, 2025
What should I do if the thermocouple is shorting or faulty in my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace?
    • R
      robertstrongAug 26, 2025
If you suspect a shorting or faulty thermocouple in your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, try loosening and then tightening the thermocouple. Also, clean the thermocouple and valve connection. If these steps don't resolve the issue, you may need to replace the thermocouple or the valve.

How to fix carboning that occurs in my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace?
    • E
      erikhebertAug 28, 2025
To address carboning in your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, clean the glass with a recommended gas appliance glass cleaner. Remember: DO NOT CLEAN GLASS WHEN HOT. Regular cleaning prevents permanent marking.
  • S
    Sandra CortezAug 30, 2025
What to do if the pilot flame is not engulfing the thermocouple in my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace?
    • C
      Christina PittmanAug 30, 2025
If the pilot flame isn't engulfing the thermocouple in your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, gently twist the pilot head to improve the flame pattern around the thermocouple.
  • J
    jesse45Sep 1, 2025
Why won't the pilot light on my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace light, and there's no spark at the pilot burner?
    • R
      Rebecca BaxterSep 1, 2025
If the pilot on your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace won't light and there's no spark, first check if the pilot can be lit by a match. Then, check that the wire is connected to the push button igniter and that the push button igniter is tightened. If the wire insulation is broken or frayed, replace the wire. If the ceramic insulator is cracked or broken, replace the electrode. Also, ensure you have propane gas. The spark gap should be 0.150” (3.8mm) to 0.175” (4.5mm) from the electrode tip and the pilot burner. To ensure proper electrode location, tighten securing nut (finger tight plus 1/4 turn). It may also be necessary to replace the push button ignitor.

What should I do if the flame in my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace is impinging on the logs or combustion chamber?
    • A
      afieldsSep 3, 2025
If the flame in your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace is hitting the logs or combustion chamber, verify that the logs are correctly positioned. You can also open the air shutter to increase the primary air. Check the input rate by checking the manifold pressure and orifice size as specified by the rating plate values.

What causes a white or grey film to form on my Napoleon GSS42CFN Indoor Fireplace?
    • M
      Michael DominguezSep 5, 2025
The white or grey film that forms is sulphur from fuel being deposited on glass, logs, or combustion chamber surfaces. Check pressure readings to address this issue.
  • J
    James HolmesSep 6, 2025
What to do if there is no gas at the pilot burner of my Napoleon GSS42CFN?
    • S
      Sophia MathewsSep 6, 2025
If there's no gas at the pilot burner of your Napoleon Indoor Fireplace, verify that the manual valve is turned on and check the pilot orifice for blockage. If these steps don't work, it might be necessary to replace the valve.
