(no
value)
The
Direct Console
I/O
function performs one
of
three functions, depending
on
the
value in register
DL.
It
reads a character from the console, writes a
character
to
the
console,
or
returns the console status.
Direct Console
1/0
is
supported
under
CP/M-86
for those specialized applications
where
unadorned
console
input
and
output
are required. Use
of
this function
should, in general, be avoided since it bypasses all
of
CP/M-86's
normal
control
character
functions (e.g., CONTROL-S
and
CONTROL-P).
Programs
which
perform
direct
I/O
through
the BIOS
under
previous releases
of
CP/M-80,
however,
should
be changed
to
use Direct Console
I/O
under
the BDOS so
that
they can be fully supported
under
future releases
of
CP/M.
