Troubleshooting
Problem Cause Measure
The image quality is
poor.
The contrast or the
resolution is poor.
The lens and specimen are dirty or dusty.
Check and clean them in accordance with “Dirt
or dust does not rotate when the eyepiece is
turned” of “A dirty or dusty field of view when
looking into the eyepiece.”
An aperture diaphragm is stopped down
too far. Otherwise, it is open too much.
Open it to the proper size.
(Chapter 2 “6 Adjusting the Aperture Diaphragm”)
The field diaphragm image is not focused
on the specimen surface.
(A condenser adjustment is incorrect.)
Make sure the condenser is focused and
centered.
(Chapter 2, “5 Focusing and Centering the
Condenser”.)
No immersion oil is applied to the tip of an
oil-immersion objective.
Apply our designated non-fluorescent
immersion oil.
(Chapter 2 “14 Oil Immersion”)
The designated immersion oil is not used.
The immersion oil contains air bubbles.
Remove the air bubbles.
(Chapter 2 “14 Oil Immersion”)
The immersion oil adheres to the tip of the
dry-type objective.
Clean it as appropriate.

The field of view is too
bright.
The brightness of the dia-illumination LED
is not adjusted appropriately.
Adjust the brightness using the brightness control
knob to attain a suitable brightness.
(Chapter 2, “1 Adjusting the Brightness of a
Diascopic Image”)
The initial brightness setting of the
dia-illumination LED is not appropriate.
Change the initial brightness.
(Chapter 2, “13.2 Changing the Initial Brightness
of Dia-illumination LED”.)
The field of view is too
dark.
The brightness of the dia-illumination LED
is not adjusted appropriately.
Adjust the brightness using the brightness control
knob to attain a suitable brightness.
(Chapter 2, “1 Adjusting the Brightness of a
Diascopic Image”)
The aperture diaphragm is stopped down
too far.
This should normally be adjusted to 70 to 80%
of numerical aperture of the objective.
(Chapter 2 “6 Adjusting the Aperture Diaphragm”)
A field diaphragm image is not focused on
the specimen surface.
Make sure the condenser is focused and
centered.
(Chapter 2, “5 Focusing and Centering the
Condenser”.)

binocular 100%.
Set to binocular 100%.
(Chapter 2, “9 Switching the Optical Path of the
