2 OPERATION
2.3.2 Cold Weather Diesel Engine Starting
DO NOT use ether as a starting aid. The engine is equipped
with glow plugs or with an automatic preheater. Highly ammable ether and
similar starting aids exposed to these devices can cause re or an explosion.
Glow plugs should always be used to assist starting the diesel engine at
temperatures below 70 F. (21 C.), and preferably above this temperature as
well. The engine is provided with an electronic control unit (ECU) that makes
this simple to do.
• Turn ignition switch to RUN. Glow plugs will energize and yellow pilot light
on dash will go on.
• DO NOT crank until light goes out.
• NOTE: It is possible to crank engine before light goes out, but this practice
should be avoided, unless restarting after short “o” intervals.
2.3.3 Servicing Aircraft
How to Safely Approach the Aircraft
This unit has restricted visibility on the right-hand side and rear.
• Before moving unit, walk around and ensure that there are no obstructions
in the desired direction of movement.
• Be extra cautious when driving in reverse or making right turns. The
operator position is forward of the front wheels. Be sure to compensate for
this by steering late.
Always approach turns slowly and carefully. When
approaching blind corners or steering around obstructions, reduce speed and
proceed cautiously.
Be extremely alert during hazardous operating conditions.
Operating conditions can change as work progresses and as weather
changes.
1. Drive the unit to work area and place it as close as possible to nal working
position. Make sure that stabilizers are not obstructed. Make sure that
platform can be raised to working position without interference.
2. This unit cannot be driven while platform is raised.
3. Place transmission shift lever in Neutral position and set handbrake.
Always set the parking brake when parking the machine. The
transmission does not have an internal parking lock and failure to apply the
parking brake could allow unexpected movement resulting in crushing injury
or death.
4. Lower stabilizers fully. Hold DOWN function on for at least ½ second after
all pads have made ground contact.
