Use
WARNING
Impeded performance
Coagulum or eschar that accumulates at the HF instrument can impede the performance
of the electrosurgical generator. Increasing the power level can damage the electrosurgical
generator and can result in injury to the patient.
‒ Carefully clean affected areas of the HF instrument. Refer to the instructions for use of
the HF instrument.
‒ If necessary, replace the HF instrument.
WARNING
Apparent low output
Apparent low output or failure of the device to function correctly at the normal operating
settings may indicate faulty application of the neutral electrode or poor contact in its
connections.
Before increasing the intensity, check the adherence of the neutral electrode and its
connections.
CAUTION
Inappropriate settings
Inappropriate output of power can result in bleeding, perforation and burns to the patient.
Before activating, conrm that the displayed settings are correct for the intended procedure.
8.7.1 Considerations before activating
To prevent malfunction of electronic implants, e.g. pacemakers and debrillators
‒ Conrm with a cardiologist or with the manufacturer of the pacemaker/debrillator that it
is safe to perform the planned HF procedure.
‒ Do not apply the electrosurgical instrument in close proximity to the implanted electronic
device.
To prevent procedural hazards and complications
‒ Before starting the procedure, check that all equipment is connected properly.
‒ Observe the instructions in the chapter “Inspection before operation”.
‒ Prepare a spare electrosurgical generator or an alternative procedure to avoid
interruption due to an unexpected electrosurgical generator failure during the procedure.
To prevent unintended current ows and HF leakage currents
‒ Ground the operating table.
‒ Place the patient on a dry, electrically insulating surface.
‒ The patient must not come in contact with earthed metal parts or with metal parts that
have an appreciable capacitance to earth, e.g. the operating table.
‒ The patient’s clothes must be dry.
‒ Avoid contact between the different skin surfaces (arms, legs) of the patient, e.g. place
dry gauze between the body and arms and between the legs.
‒ Remove all metallic items from the patient, e.g. wristwatches, jewelry.
‒ Avoid skin contact between the patient and the user.
‒ Route all cables in a way that they are not in direct contact with the patient.
‒ Route all cables in a way that they are not in contact with other cables.
‒ Ensure that all equipment is connected properly.
