16. Interpreting the result
Cloud point:
The temperature at which the actual cloud point detection took place (the
instrument is able to detect cloud point while the jar is inside the bath jacket) is
displayed at a 0,01 ºC resolution. However, as per method the Cloud Point
Result is rounded down to the whole ºC lower than the actual detection.
For example:
The temperature at which the detection took place was -3.29 ºC.
The Cloud Point Result is now -4 ºC.
Pour point:
Pour point detection can only take place when the jar is lifted outside the bath
jacket. These lift moments are preset in the program to occur at whole 1 ºC or
3 ºC sample temperatures. Depending on the measurement interval of either 1
or 3 ºC, the Pour Point Result is rounded up to the last measurement at which
the sample was still flowing.
For example:
When using a program with 3 ºC measurement intervals; at a sample
temperature of -9 ºC the instrument still detected sample movement, so the
test continues. Now at the next temperature of -12 ºC the jar is tilted
completely horizontally, but no movement is detected for 5 seconds: the test is
now finished, and the Pour Point Result is now -9 ºC.
