Overview

This document describes the Panasonic SA-HE40 AV Control Receiver, an amplifier and tuner designed for home theater use.

Function Description:

The SA-HE40 is a versatile AV Control Receiver capable of decoding various digital audio signals and providing surround sound effects. It functions as an amplifier, FM/AM tuner, and a central control unit for a home theater system.

  • Amplifier: The unit features a multi-channel amplifier with RMS output power of 150 W per channel (6 Ω) for the front channels and 80 W per channel (4 Ω) for surround and center channels in Dolby Digital mode. In stereo mode, it delivers 150 W per channel (6 Ω) for the front channels. The total RMS output power is 540 W. It supports tone controls for Bass and Treble, adjustable from +10 dB to -10 dB at 50 Hz and 20 kHz respectively.
  • Tuner: It includes an FM/AM tuner. The FM frequency range is 87.50 MHz to 108.00 MHz, with a usable sensitivity of 2.2 µV/75 Ω (IHF'58). The AM frequency range is 522 kHz to 1611 kHz (9 kHz steps) or 530 kHz to 1620 kHz (10 kHz steps). It supports RDS (Radio Data System) broadcasts, displaying information like program service (PS), program type (PTY), and frequency.
  • Digital Input Decoding: The receiver can decode Dolby Digital, DTS, and PCM signals, including PCM with sampling frequencies of 96 or 88.2 kHz. It cannot decode other digital signals like MPEG or Dolby Digital RF signals from a laser disc player.
  • Surround Sound Processing: It incorporates Dolby Pro LogicII for adding surround effects to stereo sources, offering MOVIE, MUSIC, and PANORAMA modes. It also features Sound Field Control (SFC) modes for enhanced sound experiences with PCM or analogue stereo sources, including LIVE, POP/ROCK, VOCAL, JAZZ, DANCE, PARTY, DRAMA, ACTION, SPORTS, MUSICAL, GAME, and MONO.
  • Recording Functionality: The unit allows recording from any analog source (except DVR/DVD-P IN) to a connected DVR/DVD-P OUT device. Digital sources cannot be recorded directly.
