PKB-M, PKB-MS Operating Manual 3
ENGLISH
Unit description
In addition to the standard PKB-M, a version is available with automatic
standstill detection, the PKB-MS. The unit comprises control logic with a
micro controller and a braking current power-semiconductor mounted on a
heatsink. Versions for 5 supply voltage ranges and 2 braking currents are
available.
Units up to 15 A/415 VAC have an integrated brake contactor.
Units 15 A/440 VAC and higher and all 30 A units require an external
brake contactor.
To operate the unit there is a membrane keypad with 4 keys and on the
front panel, a 2-line, alphanumeric liquid cristal display (LCD), each line
with 8 characters. The 90 mm width housing can be installed on a DIN-
Rail. The type description and serial number can be found on the
identification label on the side of the unit.
Features:
Brake for preset time (PKB-M)
Brake for preset time or brake until standstill (PKB-MS)
Braking time can be set
Safety times can be set
Remote control options for braking time, braking current and manually
controlled braking
Automatic braking current regulator
Retentive parameter memory in the EEPROM
Monitoring the heatsink temperature
Load-free switching of the brake contactor
Motor PTC-thermistor monitoring
Function sequence
The mini braking unit creates the braking moment by energising the stator
with a DC current. The braking current is regulated according to the
effective value and for setting purposes it doesn’t need to be measured
externally. Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 show the function diagrams. After applying
the supply voltage at terminals L1/A1 and L2 (linked with A2) the unit is
initialised and ready for operation. The internal motor enable relay is
energised, the contacts 8-9 close and the motor control is enabled.
By switching off the motor, the contacts 6-7 close and trigger the braking
process. The contacts 8-9 open and as such close the motor control.
