3.1 Intendeduse
TheexpansionmodulePNOZmESProfinetisusedforcommunicationbetweentheconfig
urablecontrolsystemPNOZmulti2withthePROFINET.
PROFINETisdesignedforfastdataexchangeatfieldlevel.TheexpansionmodulePNOZ
mESProfinetisapassivesubscriber(IOdevice)ofthePROFINET.Thebasiccommunica
tionfunctionswiththePROFINETconformtotheSystemDescriptionpublishedbythe
PROFIBUS&PROFINETInternational(PI)UserGroup.Thecentralcontroller(IOcontrol
ler)readsinputinformationfromtheIOdevicesandwritesoutputinformationtotheIO
devicesaspartofeachcycle.AswellasthecyclicaltransferofusabledataPROFINETcan
alsobeusedfordiagnosticsandcommissioningfunctions.Datatrafficismonitoredonthe
IOcontrollerandIOdeviceside.
Theexpansionmodulemayonlybeconnectedtoabaseunitfromtheconfigurablecontrol
systemPNOZmulti2(pleaserefertothedocument"PNOZmultiSystemExpansion"forde
tailsofthebaseunitsthatcanbeconnected).
TheconfigurablecontrolsystemPNOZmulti2isusedforthesafetyrelatedinterruptionof
safetycircuitsandisdesignedforusein:

Theexpansionmodulemaynotbeusedforsafetyrelatedfunctions.
