Vehicle Immersion
CAUTIO N
If your vehicle becomes immersed, major engine damage can
result if the vehicle is not thoroughly inspected. Take the vehicle
to your dealer before starting the engine.
If it’s impossib le to take your RANGER to a dealer before starting it,
follow the steps outl ined below.
1. Move the vehicle to d ry land, o r at the very least, to a water level
below t he floor.
2. Disconnect the fuel pump wires.
3. Remove t h e spark plug.
4. Place a clean container under the engine and loosen the carburetor
drain s crew (1) two turns.

5. Turn the engine over several times with electric st art. Inspect the
drained fuel for w ater or sediment.
6. Dry the spark plu g and reinstall, o r in s t all a n ew plug.
7. Tighten the carburetor drain screw.
8. Reconnect the fuel pump wires.
9. Attempt to start t he engine. If necessary, repeat th e drying
procedure.
10. Take the vehicle to your dealer for service as soon as possible
whether you succeed in starting it or not.
NOTE: If water has been ingested into the PVT follow the procedure
on page 75 for drying.
