MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
Spark Arrestor
Use the following procedure to periodically purge accumulated carbon
from the exhaust pi p e.
1. Remove t h e arrestor
clean-out plugs (1) located
on the bottom of the
muffler.
2. Place th e transmission in
neutral and start the engine.
3. Purge accumulated carbon
from the system by
momentarily revving the
engine several t imes.
4. If carbon is expelled , cover or plug the exhaust o u t l et (2) and rap
on the pipe around the clean-out p l u g s while revving t h e engine
several more times.
5. If particles are still suspected to be in the muffler, elevate the rear
of the vehicle on e foot higher than the front. Set the parking brake
and bl ock the wheels. Make sure the vehicle is in neutral and
repeat steps 2 and 4.
6. If particles are still suspected to be in the muffler, drive the vehicle
onto t he in cline so the front of the vehicle is one foot higher t h an
the rear. Set the parking brake and block the wh eels. Make sure
the vehicle is in neutral and repeat steps 3 and 4 until no more
particles are expelled when the engine is revved.
7. Sto p the engine and allow t he arrestor to cool.
8. Reinstall th e arrestor plugs and remove the outlet cover or plug.
