Procedure 7.4 - Replacing an Interconnect Cable
Procedure
Note: Before you install a new interconnect cable, ensure that the interconnect cable is
defective. Refer to Procedure 6.1.
1. Set the on/off switch in the off position.
2. There are three interconnect cables in the 5.17i. The upper, intermediate and lower
interconnect cables. The upper interconnect cable is inside of the display housing. The
intermediate interconnect cable is routed from the display housing to the lower end of the
left frame tube. The lower interconnect cable is routed from the lower end of the left frame
tube to the lower PCA.
3. If you are replacing the upper interconnect cable continue with step 4. If you are replacing
the intermediate interconnect cable skip to step 6. If you are replacing the lower
interconnect cable, skip to step 20.
4. Remove the four screws that fasten the display front panel to the display housing. Lift the
display front panel off of the display housing and disconnect the upper interconnect cable
from the upper PCA and the mid-point connector.
5. Connect the replacement cable between the upper PCA and the mid-point connector. Set
the display front panel at its mounting position and fasten it with the hardware removed in
step 4. Thoroughly, test the unit per Section 4.
6. Remove the four screws that fasten the display front panel to the display housing. Lift the
display front panel off of the display housing and disconnect the intermediate interconnect
cable from the mid-point connector. Remove the display front panel and set it aside.
Remove the four screws that fasten the display backplate to the frame. Remove the display
backplate and set it aside.
7. Place a block of wood under the front foot of the EFX. The intermediate interconnect cable
is routed through the left frame tube. Raising the front of the unit removes the EFX’s weigh
from the left frame tube and allows removal of the left frame tube. Caution must be
exercised while the EFX’s front is raised because the EFX will be unstable and can be
rocked to the left or right.
8. Remove the two bolts that fasten the left hand frame tube to the display housing. Loosen but
do not remove the two bolts that fasten the right hand frame tube to the display mounting.

9. Remove the nuts that fasten the lower end of the left frame tube to the frame base. Carefully
slide the left frame tube off of the lower mounting bolts and out of the display mounting to
expose the intermediate interconnect cable and lower interconnect cables. Thread the nuts
back onto the lower frame tube bolts to ensure that the bolts stay in place in the frame base
